The El Nus Research Center is located in the town of San José del Nus, in the municipality of San Roque, in the northeastern subregion of Antioquia. Currently, this site has been declared a protected area, since it has approximately 700 hectares of forest rich in biodiversity and with many water sources.

Livestock-oriented research is being carried out at El Nus in the areas of beef and dual-purpose livestock, pasture and fodder, and animal pathology and parasitology. In addition, the Center promotes conservation, genetic improvement and inclusion of local breeds, especially the White black ear (WBE). El Nus also manages the San Pedreño Local Swine Breed Germplasm Bank.

In the agricultural area, the Center is carrying out research on silvopastoral and agroforestry systems focused on the recovery and adequate management of soil and water, with different crops such as cocoa, rubber, forest species and sugarcane (for the production of panela). Likewise, the Center holds the elite collection of avocados for Antioquia’s temperate climate.

The work of the El Nus Research Center is focused on the inter-Andean valleys, with influence on the watershed of the Magdalena Medio.

Zootechnician from the National University of Colombia, Medellín campus, and specialist in Viral Reproductive Diseases from the Federal University of Lavras, Brazil; he also has an M.Sc. in Administration with emphasis on Project Management from the University of Viña del Mar, Chile.
