La Trinidad Experiment Farm
La Trinidad is an experiment ranch located in Suán, Atlántico, with technologies available for the whole Caribbean region. The farm is under the administration of the Caribia Research Center, where the technological development of the department is promoted through capacity building of producers, technical assistants, students and the general public.
Given that one of the main economic activities in the southern part of the department of Atlántico is dual-purpose livestock breeding, La Trinidad is focused on working with a module of silvopastoral systems to manage pasture rotation for cattle feeding and nutrition, with a forage bank in which fodder sorghum JJT-18 is used—a variety developed by AGROSAVIA that is highly adapted to times of drought for cattle supplementation.
In La Trinidad, AGROSAVIA will establish technological showcases for planting vegetables and fruit trees, for experimental and demonstrative purposes. These crops include ‘topito’ chili, squash, eggplant, plantains and cassava. Technologies will be developed for fruit trees such as guava and cashews, considering their potential as an agroindustrial alternative.
