Popayán Site
This site is run by the Palmira Research Center. Its agenda includes the following activities:
- Agroclimatic Adaptation and Prevention Models (MAPA, from their name in Spanish) to validate technological options to face extreme climate events (El Niño and La Niña phenomena) in integration plots in the municipalities of El Tambo (avocado), Mercaderes (cocoa) and Patía (livestock).
- Integrated management of the Hass avocado variety to increase quality, yield and productivity. A study is also being carried out to evaluate products and techniques for controlling rot caused by Phytophthora cinnamomi and insect borers that attack this fruit tree.
- Study of new cassava varieties for fresh consumption, for the feed industry and for starch production.
- Seed Plan: seed characterization and validation for strengthening local capacities of small producers of beans, maize, peach palm and sugarcane (for panela).

Agricultural Engineer from the National University of Colombia, Bogotá, and M.Sc. in Plant Pathology from the same university and from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the Philippines. He has served as director of AGROSAVIA’s La Libertad, Palmira, Tibaitatá and Turipaná research centers and is the national leader of AGROSAVIA’S National Seed Plan. He has experience in research on rice breeding and plant pathology working for the Colombian Agricultural Institute (Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario, ICA) and at AGROSAVIA, and was Colombia's representative (2008-2014) on the Board of Directors of the Regional Fund for Agricultural Technology (Fondo Regional de Tecnología Agropecuaria, FONTAGRO).
