Pasto, Nariño. December 22, 2025. On December 15 and 16, AGROSAVIA’s Obonuco Research Center held the first and second sessions of the Workshop for the Validation of the Proposal for the Module on Heavy Metal Mitigation in Cacao Cultivation, within the framework of the FAO Global Soil Doctors Programme in Colombia.
This space aimed to validate the module through a participatory approach, integrating scientific knowledge, practical experiences, and local knowledge, in order to strengthen the training of Soil Doctors in the country and to generate technical recommendations that contribute to the sustainability and safety of cacao production systems.
The initiative is part of the project that emerged from the Ideas ON campaign, entitled “Validation of the proposal for the Module on heavy metal mitigation in cacao crops within the framework of the FAO Global Soil Doctors Programme in Colombia,” and is led by AGROSAVIA’s Department of Sustainable Intensive Production. Through this work, the institution reaffirms its institutional commitment to safer, more resilient, and more sustainable agriculture.
During the workshop, participants included Fedecacao, Ayuda en Acción, cocoa producers, ASOCACAO, the Agency for Territorial Renewal (ART, for its Spanish acronym), AGROSAVIA, and FAO, who contributed from their different technical, territorial, and productive perspectives to the module validation process.
As a result of the second session, the need to make adjustments to the module content was agreed upon, so that it responds more precisely to the realities of the territories, especially regarding the presence and management of heavy metal contamination in the soils of cacao production systems.
Through initiatives such as this, AGROSAVIA continues to strengthen participatory research and knowledge transfer processes, articulating science, territory, and key stakeholders for the sustainable development of Colombian cacao/cocoa.
