Bogotá, Capital District. February 26, 2026. On February 20, the Corporación colombiana de investigación agropecuaria – AGROSAVIA and the Stockholm Environment Institute – SEI signed a Memorandum of Understanding that marks a new milestone in the consolidation of international partnerships aimed at the sustainable transformation of Colombia’s agricultural sector.
This five-year agreement formalizes the mutual interest in cooperation to advance the development of joint research, development, and innovation (R&D&I) projects, and to strengthen technical and institutional capacities in response to the country’s environmental, productive, and social challenges.
AGROSAVIA, whose mission is to generate scientific knowledge and develop technological solutions to enhance the productivity, competitiveness, and sustainability of Colombia’s agricultural sector, views this partnership as an opportunity to broaden its scope and reinforce international collaboration on strategic issues.
For its part, SEI, an international organization dedicated to research and policy analysis to promote sustainable development and environmental resilience at the global level, contributes its expertise in integrated approaches that connect environment, economy, and social well-being.
The convergence of these missions will enable making progress work agendas in priority areas such as:
- Adaptation to and mitigation of climate change impacts in agriculture.
- Sustainable management of natural resources — water, soil, and biodiversity — through nature-based solutions.
- Development of the bioeconomy to foster sustainable, innovative agricultural production with a responsible value chain approach.
- Strengthening peasant, family, and community agriculture by incorporating inclusive and gender-sensitive approaches, and promoting assessments of territorial gaps in access to innovation, financing, and technical assistance.
- Implementation of the One Health approach as a strategy to transform agri-food systems toward more sustainable, healthy, and resilient models.
The memorandum establishes a flexible collaboration framework that will enable the joint management of projects funded by the parties or through national and international calls, as well as the development of joint research and scientific publications.
Additionally, it considers the exchange of technical and scientific information, the organization of workshops and academic forums, technical cooperation through specialized advisory services, institutional strengthening through best practices, shared use of infrastructure and laboratory capacities, and the development of activities related to agricultural production and processing.
This alliance reaffirms AGROSAVIA’s commitment to generating relevant, high-impact knowledge, while strengthening international cooperation as a driver to accelerate innovation and contribute to the well-being of rural communities and the sustainability of the country’s agri-food systems.
