AGROSAVIA conceived and carried out the Fair “National Pea Day” in the municipality of Córdoba, Nariño, highlighting the advances in research and sustainable production of this legume

Córdoba, Nariño. October 31, 2025. Considering the economic and social relevance of the pea (Pisum sativum L.) in Colombia, and particularly in Nariño, the country’s leading producer department, the Obonuco Research Center of AGROSAVIA, in partnership with the Municipal Mayor’s Office of Córdoba, organized and actively participated in the First Pea Fair, an event held as part of the National Pea Day.

This event took place on October 10 and 12, 2025, bringing together producers, farmers’ associations, public and private entities, researchers, technical assistants, extension agents, and the general community. Its purpose was to recognize the importance of the crop in the regional economy and to share scientific and technological advances that contribute to improving its productivity and sustainability.

During the academic session held on October 10 as a prelude to the fair, technical conferences were presented on research project results conducted by AGROSAVIA and other institutions, focusing on genetic breeding, integrated pests and diseases management, and efficient fertilization strategies for pea cultivation.

The event concluded on October 12 with a public fair that included contests, a pageant, pea exhibitions and their uses, a gastronomic fair, and cultural activities, all centered around pea cultivation. The AGROSAVIA booth in the technology pavilion had an outstanding participation and was visited by more than 100 people, who learned firsthand about the research advances, technologies, and recommendations promoted by the organization to strengthen the pea production chain in the south of the country.

Through these actions, AGROSAVIA reaffirms its commitment to sustainable agricultural development, knowledge transfer, and the strengthening of production systems that contribute to the well-being of rural families and the growth of Colombia’s agricultural sector.
