AGROSAVIA drives agricultural innovation at the III Pan-American Bioinputs Forum

Bogotá, Capital District. October 27, 2025. Colombia was the epicenter of the regional dialogue on agricultural sustainability with the hosting of the III Pan-American Bioinputs Forum, an event that brought together more than 18 countries and 47 experts to discuss scientific advances and policies driving a greener and more inclusive agriculture. The forum stems from the creation of the Hemispheric Platform on Bioinputs (PHB) and was held for the first time in our country.

The three-day meeting was organized by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR)AGROSAVIA, the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA), the World Bioprotection Forum, and the initiative From Farm to Table. The coordination among these entities strengthened knowledge exchange and reaffirmed the regional commitment to innovation and sustainability.

During the opening session, AGROSAVIA’s Executive Director, Miguel Serrano, emphasized that science and research are pillars for transforming the country’s production systems and advancing toward a bioeconomy that generates opportunities in rural territories.

Martha Isabel Gómez Álvarez, Liaison Director, delivered the lecture “Innovation in the Development of Microbial Bioinputs: The Colombian Experience,” in which she presented AGROSAVIA’s achievements in the creation of national biofertilizers and biopesticides, the result of more than two decades of research.

Meanwhile, Emeritus Researcher Alba Marina Cotes shared scientific advances in the use of beneficial microorganisms for sustainable crop management. At the same time, Ph.D. Researcher Germán Estrada participated in the panel “Impact Indicators of Bioinput Use,” where the technical, environmental, and social evidence of these practices in production systems was analyzed.

The forum also included a technical visit to AGROSAVIA’s La Selva Research Center in Antioquia, where attendees learned firsthand about the bioinput developments the Corporation has promoted in the region.

Martha Gómez, AGROSAVIA’s Liaison Director, said, “The idea of this forum is to bring together academia, researchers, and decision-makers such as the ministries, so that bioinputs become a sustainability alternative for Latin America, Central America, the Andean region, and the Southern Cone.”

The III Pan-American Bioinputs Forum made it clear that knowledge, innovation, and international cooperation are the most powerful tools to face the challenges of the agricultural sector and to ensure a more sustainable future for Latin American agriculture.

Through its participation, AGROSAVIA strengthens its national and international leadership in the research and development of microbial bioinputs, reaffirming its commitment to science applied at the service of producers and the sustainability of the country.
