  • The Corporation will strengthen scientific and technological cooperation for sustainable food systems between China, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Bogotá, Capital District. December 15, 2025. Corporación colombiana de investigación, agropecuaria – AGROSAVIA officially announces its entry into the China–Latin America and the Caribbean Sustainable Food Innovation Center (CLAC-SFI), an international platform aimed at promoting innovation, sustainability, and food security between China and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, facilitating the development of joint high-level training activities, capacity building, student mentoring, and research projects on topics of interest to the countries.

The alliance has a governance structure that integrates 12 universities and research centers from China and brings together universities and research centers from Latin American and Caribbean countries, including Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, and Costa Rica, which will be part of the LAC Council to agree on joint cooperation actions.

In this sense, joining this strategic network allows AGROSAVIA to expand scientific cooperation, promote knowledge exchange, and accelerate the development of technologies that contribute to more resilient, efficient, and sustainable production systems. AGROSAVIA’s participation also positions Colombia as a relevant actor on the global agenda of agri-food innovation.

With the signing of this alliance within the framework of the 2025 edition of the International Forum on Innovation and Sustainability (IFAIS), organized by the Yazhouwan National Laboratory and the Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City Administration, AGROSAVIA will be able to engage in joint research projects, participate in global initiatives on bioeconomy, precision agriculture, plant and animal health, and genetic breeding, as well as strengthen its capacities through expert exchange, specialized training, and access to advanced scientific infrastructure and services.

“The world demands innovative solutions to ensure food security in a context of climate change, pressure on natural resources, and a growing need to produce more and better. Our participation in this platform will allow us to accelerate the development of technologies that benefit Colombian and Latin American producers,” stated Dr. Rodrigo Martínez, Director of Research and Development at AGROSAVIA.

Dr. Martínez added that, “AGROSAVIA’s entry into the China–Latin America and the Caribbean Sustainable Food Innovation Center marks a milestone in our internationalization strategy. This alliance opens the door for us to work with some of the most advanced research groups in the world and to bring Colombian science to global arenas. Our commitment is to translate these opportunities into concrete solutions for a more productive, sustainable, and competitive rural sector”.
