Paris, France. September 12, 2025. AGROSAVIA represented Colombia at the 8th International Conference on Farming Systems Design (FSD8), held at the Agro Paris-Saclay Campus under the topic “Farming Systems Design for Sustainable Agrifood Systems: Theories and Practices.” The event, which gathers the international scientific community every three years, brought together experts from multiple disciplines to debate and propose solutions to global agricultural challenges such as climate change, food security, and the agroecological transition.
In this high-level setting, Diego Meneses Buitrago, Associate Master Researcher at AGROSAVIA’s Obonuco Research Center, presented the progress made in the analysis and diversification of agrifood systems in Nariño. His research, conducted in the buffer zone of the Doña Juana–Cascabel Volcanic Complex National Natural Park, focused on nitrogen use efficiency, a key nutrient in territories with high socio-environmental vulnerability.

In addition to the presentation, AGROSAVIA’s participation included attending specialized courses on farming systems design, exchanging experiences in a parallel event organized by CIRAD and SLU on rural poverty, and visiting the Grignon experimental farm, a benchmark in sustainable practices led by AgroParisTech.
The institution’s presence at FSD8 enhanced the international visibility of Colombian agricultural science, opened new opportunities for scientific cooperation, and provided access to cutting-edge methodologies for the redesign of sustainable agrifood systems.
Diego Meneses mentioned, “FSD8 was an invaluable opportunity to share our results, expand collaboration networks, and learn about innovative trends that will help strengthen Colombian agriculture.”
With this participation, AGROSAVIA reaffirms its commitment to applied research and knowledge transfer, consolidating its role in transforming Colombian agriculture toward sustainability, innovation, and competitiveness.
