AGROSAVIA strengthens its leadership as a research center

AGROSAVIA strengthens its leadership as a research center
  • More than 90 % of its research groups were classified in the top categories of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Minciencias).

Mosquera, Colombia. December 5, 2025. Corporación colombiana de investigación agropecuaria (AGROSAVIA) presented the successful results obtained in the “Measurement of Research Groups and Researchers” carried out by Minciencias through Call 957 of 2024, one of the most important processes for evaluating the country’s scientific capacity.

This model analyzes the scientific production, organizational maturity, trajectory, and quality of the results generated by research groups linked to the National Science, Technology, and Innovation System (SNCTI), with the purpose of guiding institutional and public policy decisions.

On this occasion, AGROSAVIA participated with 21 research groups, whose results reflect the institutional strength and strategic progress of their lines of work. According to the classification awarded by Minciencias, the groups obtained the following distribution:

  • 15 groups in category A1
  • 4 groups in category A
  • 2 recognized groups

These figures demonstrate outstanding performance: 90.5% of the groups were placed in the upper levels, consolidating AGROSAVIA’s position as a national reference entity in agricultural science.

The strengthening shown by the groups not only highlights the academic commitment of their researchers, but also the institutional consistency in project formulation, human talent development, knowledge generation and dissemination, and the sustainability of their research lines.

Likewise, the results enabled to identify relevant trends for the strategic planning of the coming years, including:

  • The stability of groups ranked in the upper categories.
  • The consolidation of mature research lines.
  • The potential of two emerging groups that could move up or escalate in future assessments.
  • Greater capacity to guide investment decisions and strengthen national and international collaborative networks.

Regarding the classification of researchers, AGROSAVIA also recorded a significant increase, reaffirming the institutional commitment to scientific excellence and the consolidation of the human talent involved in its research and innovation processes.

22 Senior Researchers

63 Associate Researchers

259 Junior Researchers

“These results reflect the continuous efforts of our teams and the scientific maturity that AGROSAVIA has built over the years. They motivate us to continue strengthening our research agenda and to consolidate capacities that respond to the current and future challenges of the Colombian agricultural sector,” said Rodrigo Alfredo Martínez Sarmiento, Director of Research at AGROSAVIA.

With these advances, AGROSAVIA reaffirms its mission to contribute to the productive transformation of the Colombian countryside through rigorous, relevant, and high-impact research, as well as its commitment to excellence as one of the 123 actors recognized by Minciencias and the SNCTI.
