Bogotá, September 11, 2025. With the participation of more than 30,000 attendees, the 2025 International Summit on Sustainability and Environmental Innovation concluded at the Ágora Convention Center with a positive balance for AGROSAVIA, which presented scientific initiatives and strategic alliances aimed at conservation, innovation, and resilience in the agricultural sector.
One of the main announcements was the signing of an Inter-Administrative Agreement between AGROSAVIA, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR, for its Spanish acronym), and the Secretariat of Green Welfare of the Government of Cundinamarca. This agreement will enable the production of nearly 500,000 seedlings of native forest species for reforestation in priority areas of the department, within the framework of the goal of planting 5 million trees in CAR’s jurisdiction. The agreement, effective until 2027, will ensure the continuity of the departmental nursery established in 2023 at the Tibaitatá Research Center and will include research, development, and innovation (R&D&I) activities to strengthen the quality of plant material and local technical capacities.

During the academic agenda, AGROSAVIA also shared the experience of its Research Centers declared as protected areas –Turipaná, Tibaitatá, La Selva, El Nus, and Carimagua– covering more than 15,000 hectares of strategic ecosystems such as dry forests, wetlands, and natural savannas. These territories are not only biodiversity refuges but have also become spaces for applied research and knowledge transfer.
At the institutional stands, projects on agroecology, composting, equity, diversity, and reforestation developed in partnership with rural communities and strategic allies were highlighted. Of particular note was the initiative “Together we Transform Sustainable Campuses,” in collaboration with the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, which promotes nature-based solutions and experience sharing to advance the transition toward more sustainable agrifood systems.
In terms of applied investigation, Researcher Daniel Bravo presented AGROSAVIA’s strategies to reduce cadmium and nickel in crops, progress that strengthens agricultural safety and improves the competitiveness of Colombian producers in international markets.
Institutional participation in this summit also conveyed a clear message: agricultural activity can coexist with conservation. “Our Research Centers not only generate knowledge but are also guardians of strategic ecosystems,” assured Jenny Molina, AGROSAVIA’s Organizational Management Leader.
Meanwhile, Alfred Ignacio Ballesteros, General Director of CAR, praised the inter-institutional alliance: “This agreement is the concrete proof of joint action between AGROSAVIA, the Government, and CAR, which will allow producing quality plant material for the restoration of strategic ecosystems and adaptation to climate change.”
With these actions, AGROSAVIA reaffirms its role as a benchmark in sustainability and innovation, driving science and cooperation to address the challenges of climate change and ensure a sustainable future for Colombian agriculture.
