Bogotá, Capital District. March 10, 2026. The science developed for the Colombian agricultural sector continues to gain recognition on the international stage. The most recent results of the SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR), which evaluates the scientific performance of thousands of research institutions worldwide, once again places AGROSAVIA on the global list.
This result is not merely a figure within an international ranking. Behind this position lies the work of researchers, technical teams, and scientific projects aimed at addressing the challenges of Colombian agriculture, from crop breeding to the sustainability of productive systems.
In the most recent edition of the ranking, AGROSAVIA is ranked 5,722 among more than 10,800 institutions evaluated worldwide, a result that reflects the continuity of the Corporation’s scientific work and the capacity of its research community to generate knowledge with international impact.
In Latin America, the Corporation also maintains a prominent presence by ranking seventh (7) among non-profit research organizations, while in Colombia, it is one of only two institutions represented in this category, reaffirming its role within the national system of science, technology, and innovation.
The SCImago ranking is one of the most comprehensive international assessments of institutional scientific performance. Its methodology integrates indicators related to scientific production, innovation outcomes, and the social impact of institutions, measured through their visibility on the web. To be included in this list, organizations must meet demanding requirements, including publishing more than 100 scientific articles in the Scopus database during the last year. This indicator reflects international standards of research quality.
In this context, AGROSAVIA’s positioning reflects a scientific trajectory that has been consolidated in key knowledge areas related to the agricultural sector. The ranking recognizes its presence in fields such as agriculture and biological sciences, biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology, environmental sciences, and veterinary medicine—disciplines that are fundamental for understanding and transforming the country’s productive systems.
This international performance is also supported by the results obtained within the National System of Science and Technology. Currently, more than 90% of AGROSAVIA’s research groups are classified in categories A1 and A by Minciencias, confirming the strength and consistency of its scientific production.
“Our consistent presence in these rankings is not merely a statistical indicator; it confirms that the science we develop for Colombian producers meets international quality standards,” said Diego Hernando Flórez Martínez, Head of the Department of Scientific and Technological Intelligence and Outreach at AGROSAVIA.
Beyond scientific indicators, the research conducted by the Corporation translates into concrete solutions for Colombia's agricultural sector. New crop varieties adapted to different regions, bioproducts for the sustainable management of pests and diseases, and more efficient production models are some examples of how knowledge generated in research centers ultimately reaches producers.
In this regard, AGROSAVIA’s presence in international rankings not only helps make the science produced in the country more visible but also opens opportunities to strengthen scientific partnerships, international cooperation, and new research initiatives to address global challenges such as climate change, food security, and the sustainability of the agricultural sector.
Thus, every scientific publication, every research project, and every technological innovation contributes to a broader objective: to showcase the potential of Colombian agriculture to the world and to contribute to the development of a more productive, sustainable, and innovative agricultural sector.
