BAC Móvil: Knowledge Sowing the Diverse Landscapes of Colombian Agriculture

Florencia, Caquetá. July 14, 2025. Along the wet and rainy roads of Colombia’s rural Amazonia—where the land holds ancestral secrets and the sweat of farmers becomes the seed of progress—a quiet yet powerful revolution of knowledge moves forward: the agricultural suitcases of BAC Móvil. An initiative of the Colombian Corporation for Agricultural Research – AGROSAVIA, this program is designed to democratize access to technical and scientific knowledge in the Colombian agricultural sector. This time, the Florencia Office delivered this admirable treasure trove of knowledge to the agricultural departments of the municipalities of Milán, Paujil, Curillo, Albania, Belén de los Andaquíes, and Florencia in Caquetá.

These are not mere suitcases filled with books. They are treasure chests carrying within their pages the whisper of science and practical wisdom—a traveling library that crosses mountains, hills, and rivers to meet the calloused hands that feed the nation. Each suitcase, with its 20 to 25 documentary treasures, forms a bridge between laboratories and furrows, between researchers and the farmers who speak with the land every day.

These suitcases are seeds of another kind:

• Booklets that sprout new techniques under the sun of La Guajira.
• Manuals that blossom into solutions in the Coffee Axis.
• Videos that irrigate innovation in the crops of Magdalena.
• Books that germinate as seeds of knowledge in the untouched lands of Caquetá and Putumayo.

AGROSAVIA has created more than just a lending program: it has woven a network of hope where muddy-booted extensionists and warm-smiling producers discover that knowledge, when it travels to meet those who need it, ceases to be dead text and becomes a bountiful harvest.

Because in Colombia, agricultural development is not written solely in scientific or academic articles—it is also written in the worn pages of a manual consulted at sunset, in the gleam of a farmer’s eye discovering a solution, in those traveling suitcases that, like good neighbors, arrive just when the land cries out for new answers.

AGROSAVIA’s BAC Móvil is an effective strategy for the social appropriation of knowledge, aiming to eliminate barriers to access technical and scientific information, adapt it to rural contexts, and promote collaboration among actors in the sector. Its model combines physical resources, training, and technology, generating direct impact on agricultural productivity and resilience. It benefits extension workers, technical assistants, rural promoters, small producers, and rural communities, encouraging practical application and the long-awaited technical transformation.
