Palmira, Valle del Cauca. July 28, 2025. The Dominico Hartón plantain is one of the most important varieties in Colombia’s agri-food system. Its cultivation has high national market demand, both for fresh consumption and agro-industrial use, and is an essential component of food security in many regions of the country. In addition, it represents a key source of income for thousands of rural families in the departments of Valle del Cauca, Antioquia, Meta, Tolima, Quindío, and Cundinamarca.

Recognizing its strategic importance, the Palmira Research Center of the Colombian Corporation for Agricultural Research – AGROSAVIA, in Valle del Cauca, offers farmers selected-category Dominico Hartón plantain planting material, ready for immediate delivery. This material meets the highest technical standards for physical, genetic, physiological, and phytosanitary quality, and has been produced under strict protocols established in the Corporation's Standardized Operating Procedure (SOP).

Selected-category seed ensures a vigorous crop start, greater uniformity in plant development, and better agronomic performance, resulting in healthier, more productive, and more profitable crops. Each unit weighs between 1.5 and 2.0 kg, has undergone a hardening process in the nursery for approximately 60 days, and shows leaf development of between 4 and 6 true leaves, ready for transplanting to the field.

The nursery at the Palmira Research Center is registered under ICA No. 76520-0236, and AGROSAVIA is registered as a selected seed producer through ICA Resolution No. 00002185 of 2019, ensuring the traceability and legal compliance of the offered material.
