Medellín to host the first International Congress on Innovations for Rural Agroindustry

Rionegro, Antioquia. October 10, 2025. From October 27 to 29, 2025, Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB) in Medellín will host various stakeholders from the agricultural, commercial, and industrial sectors at the First International Congress on Innovations for Rural Agroindustry, under the theme Strengthening territorial competitiveness and resilient market access through innovative technologies for rural agroindustries.

This event is organized by AGROSAVIA, Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB), and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia, with the financial support of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The congress promotes the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices concerning rural agroindustry as a strategic pillar for sustainable development, productive innovation, and social inclusion at the national and international levels.

Thanks to the OECD's funding and support from other sponsors, participation in the congress will be free of charge. However, space is limited due to the capacity of Aula Magna Monseñor Manuel José Sierra at UPB, where the academic sessions will be held. The First International Congress on Innovations for Rural Agroindustry will feature national and international experts who will address the key challenges and opportunities for small- and medium-sized agroindustries, emphasizing the role of rural communities as leading actors in territorial development.

Additionally, this event is part of the commemorative activities for the 30th anniversary of UPB's Agroindustrial Engineering program.

 

Thematic Areas

Throughout the three-day event, attendees will participate in keynote speeches, panels, and working groups focused on five main themes:

  • Innovative agroindustrial technologies for rural strengthening
    • Competitive energy sources for rural agroindustries
    • Public policies for the development of rural agroindustries
    • Information and communication technologies (ICT) for rural agroindustries
    • Methodologies for the transfer and adoption of technological innovations

The First International Congress on Innovations for Rural Agroindustry aims to foster constructive dialogue among producers, students, researchers, agroindustrial entrepreneurs, representatives of government agencies, and international cooperation entities, promoting knowledge transfer and the formation of collaborative networks that contribute to productive transformation, inclusive rural development, and the consolidation of more competitive and sustainable value chains in the country and the region.
