Researchers from AGROSAVIA participated in the International Soil and Water Forum
  • The International Soil and Water Forum 2024, co-organized by FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of the Royal Government of Thailand, took place in Bangkok, Thailand, and marks the world's first high-level action plan to stop and revert land degradation and water scarcity.

Bogota, Capital District. December 17, 2024. Researchers from Corporación colombiana de investigación agropecuaria – AGROSAVIA participated in Bangkok from December 9 to 11 in the International Soil and Water Forum through conferences and as part of the discussion panels.

Martha M. Bolaños B., Senior Ph.D. Researcher of the Corporation participated as a keynote speaker in the thematic session on Land Degradation, Restoration, and Recarbonization with the conference "Land degradation neutrality and implications for agri-food systems." She was also part of the panel organized by FAO Rome on Soil4Nutrition, a project in which Colombia is making efforts to be included.

Martha highlighted, "A holistic vision and the implementation of axes such as social inclusion in the development of technologies, bioeconomy, climate-smart agriculture, thinking about new food systems and food and nutritional security as strategic approaches, are important."

For his part, Diego Hernán Meneses, M.Sc. Associate Researcher at AGROSAVIA participated with the conference "Soil erosion in Colombia and evaluation of practices to prevent it" in the Evaluation, Monitoring, and Prevention of Soil Erosion component.

Through the deliberation on the challenges and opportunities to make progress in the integrated and sustainable management of soil and water in the face of climate change, the forum seeks to establish a joint action agenda while reinforcing the commitment to the sustainable and integrated management of land, soil, and water as a basis for the transformation of agri-food systems; defend technological, institutional, governance and social innovations that have been successful in managing water scarcity and land and soil degradation; and identify technical and knowledge gaps, management challenges and applied research priorities.
