Pasto, Nariño. April 21, 2026. On April 10, the rural community of El Ejido, in the municipality of Policarpa, hosted an important event focused on sharing knowledge about the floristic diversity associated with cocoa crops.
This gathering brought together researchers from AGROSAVIA (the Obonuco Research Center), producers from Policarpa and Cumbitara, professionals from Ayuda en Acción, and partners from national cooperation entities, including Fedecacao, the Government of Nariño, and the UMATA of Policarpa. Based on research findings on the forest and agricultural characterization of the territory, participants began to collaboratively design agroforestry systems (AFS) adapted to the conditions of the Nariño mountain range.
These systems combine scientific knowledge with the ancestral wisdom of local communities, aiming to improve cocoa productivity while protecting the environment. To achieve this, self-compatible and high-yielding cocoa clones are being incorporated, including materials developed by the Corporation: TCS19 and TCS01.
The initiative represents an important step toward a more sustainable, resilient production model that harmonizes with the environment.
