Seed knowledge exchange tour strengthens ties between the Kamëntsá Biyá community and the Obonuco Research Center

Pasto, Nariño. July 30, 2025. On July 24 and 25, the workshop titled Seed Knowledge Exchange Tour - STI Kamëntsá Biyá was held. This meaningful event brought together the Seed Guardians Network (Jenay watbowanÿang) of the Kamëntsá Biyá community, originally from Sibundoy, Putumayo, and the Obonuco Research Center as part of the Territorial Innovation Systems (STI) project, within its Seed component.

The tour began on July 24 with a warm welcome to the group at the Obonuco Research Center. During the day, the group was presented with the progress and results of projects in various production systems of interest to the community. Later, the group moved to the Obonuco district to visit the PACA project, further strengthening the exchange of experiences and techniques.

On July 25, the day started with a visit to SENA, where participants reinforced their knowledge about processes and recommendations for composting and organic fertilizer, as well as the breeding of guinea pigs and goats. These exchange settings are essential for agricultural sustainability in the region and for the democratization of knowledge.

The tour concluded with a visit to the Seed House, managed by Agroeconur, closing the event with a space for collective reflection and learning.

The tour was guided by researchers Luis Felipe Rincón, Marcela Riascos, Kelly Bastidas, and David Rodriguez, who facilitated the technical and cultural exchange between the communities and the Research Center.

Initiatives like this strengthen territorial innovation and collaborative work, focusing on the recovery, conservation, and circulation of seeds, thereby ensuring sustainable development and food sovereignty in the region with a differential approach.
