- The Cassava Country Plan phase II seeks to benefit cassava producer organizations in the Caribbean, Orinoquia, and Cauca, to continue strengthening the cassava value chain in Colombia
- High-quality planting material, multiplication infrastructure, demonstrative showcases, and technical workshops are some of the benefits of Phase II of the Plan.
Montería, Córdoba. July 14, 2023. The cassava value chain is of great importance for the food and socioeconomic security of countless rural communities throughout the national territory. In Colombia, a total area of more than 200 thousand hectares is reported, finding areas with this crop in all the departments of the five natural regions of Colombia. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, seeking to promote rural progress with a territorial approach and strengthen the productivity and competitiveness of agricultural products, has created the Cassava Country Plan Phase II that seeks to: Join technical, scientific, technological, financial, and administrative efforts to promote the strengthening of productive, commercial and processing capacities of the cassava productive subsector for fresh and industrial consumption in highly relevant nuclei, through innovation and the scaling of sustainable production strategies for the consolidation of agribusiness, the technological appropriation and the social benefit of the communities.
For this, Phase II will continue with the monitoring and consolidation of productive, commercial, and industrial processes of industrial cassava in the departments of Bolívar, Córdoba, and Sucre, in addition to initiating direct intervention in the cassava production areas for fresh consumption in the departments mentioned above, and expanding its intervention to Arauca, Atlántico, Cauca, Cesar, Magdalena, and Meta to improve productivity, among other aspects.
Potential beneficiaries of this project include the different actors in the cassava production chain, such as extension workers, agricultural technical assistants, industries, and producers from the departments of Sucre, Córdoba, Bolívar, Cesar, Magdalena, Atlántico, Cauca, Arauca, and Meta. The initiative has been extended to other productive nuclei, seeking to reduce unit production costs, increase crop yield and cultivation areas with sustainable management practices, and strengthen human capital in cassava production units.

This intervention presents the following action segments to impact the obstacles faced by the chain development of the cassava subsector in the Caribbean (Sucre, Córdoba, Bolívar, Magdalena, Atlántico and Cesar), Orinoquia (Arauca and Meta) and Andean (Cauca) nuclei through the following actions:
