Pasto, Nariño. December 11, 2025. The Obonuco Research Center of AGROSAVIA experienced a week of opening its doors, exchange, and knowledge transfer, standing out as a scientific and technological benchmark both locally and internationally. Last month, the Center received academic and productive institutions interested in learning about the progress made in agricultural research carried out in the region.
The first visit involved students from Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia (UNAD), who participated in a technical tour through the different work areas of the Center. The visit focused on advances in agroecology, where the students were able to learn about ongoing research results and speak with agroecologist David Álvarez, who shared strategies and contributions from the sustainable production approach for the high Andean region of Nariño, based on the conservation of agrobiodiversity, biological control strategies, and the revalorization of rural community knowledge.
Later, the Research Center received two delegations. In the morning, in coordination with Fundación Grupo Social and Fedegan, cattle producers from the municipality of Tangua participated in a knowledge and technology transfer session at the Specialized High Tropics Dairy Livestock Showcase, where innovations for improving milk production were presented. Subsequently, a planning workshop for the year 2026 was held, aimed at developing a territorial engagement plan in this municipality. Additionally, plant material from different shrub and tree species was delivered to contribute to the reforestation of conservation areas on their farms.
On this same day, professors and students from Cotopaxi University of Ecuador also paid a visit, participating in an academic agenda that began with a presentation on research advances related to the purple tip complex and strategies for clean seed production. This meeting strengthened technical ties between both countries and opened opportunities for future collaboration.
Finally, the Ecuadorian delegation continued its agenda with a guided tour of the Specialized Dairy Livestock Showcase, where they learned first-hand about the practices, technologies, and management systems developed at AGROSAVIA to improve productivity and sustainability in dairy cattle farming in the region.
These activities reflect and reaffirm the commitment of the Obonuco-AGROSAVIA Research Center to knowledge building, human talent development, and the strengthening of the agricultural sector through collaboration with academia, producers, and international partners.
AGROSAVIA continues working to drive agricultural innovation in Colombia and position the department of Nariño as a strategic scientific hub in the Andean region.
