Description
The Caribbean cashew clone has an experimental yield of 1,236 kilograms of nuts per hectare for the dry Caribbean and 1,284 kilograms of nuts per hectare for the humid Caribbean.
The quality of the "jumbo W210" almond type is the best paid on the market due to its size and high degree of export. It has a yield (ratio of almond weight vs. nut weight) ranging between 24.4% and 25.4%. Given the shape of the almond, which is short and thick, it is considered to have higher resistance and a lower percentage of breakage during the cutting of the nut. In addition, there is high uniformity in allometric parameters (dimensions) compared to the Creole genotype clones. The tree has upright stems and erect branches that facilitate weed control and fruit harvesting work.
It is a dual-use crop since it allows the production of almonds and the elaboration of products from the peduncle.
The material is recommended to be established in climatic conditions with an ideal temperature range between 22°C and 38°C, with an annual average of 27°C, relative humidity between 70% and 85%, and altitudes below 600 meters above sea level (m a.s.l.). The development of cashew cultivation is carried out successfully when annual rainfall ranges between 800 millimeters (mm) and 1,500 millimeters (mm), distributed over 5 to 7 months and a dry period of 5 to 6 months that coincides with the flowering and fruiting phases. It presents a recommended domain for the departments of Córdoba, Sucre, Bolívar, Atlántico, Magdalena, Cesar, and La Guajira.
