Description
A seed production process is proposed considering crop installation and management in the vegetative and productive fruit and seed phases until managing the seed prior to delivery for planting a new field, achieving yields of up to 100 t*ha-1. Guidelines are given for managing the crop and the seed phase (6 months) to reach a rate of 1 seed*month-1*plant-1.
The seed production process consists of the following phases:
- Seed selection.
- Seed characteristics for new plantings.
- Preplanting disinfection
- Crop establishment.
- Fertilization by phenological phase.
With proper crop management and an appropriate seed selection, the vegetative period can be shortened, and less time is achieved for fruit harvest to reduce the production cycle by up to two months.
The continuous management in the seed production period allows the production of 1 seed month-1 against the commercial rate of 0.5 seed month-1. This is equivalent to 195,000 seeds ha-1 with a production window of six months of seed production under traditional management compared to 390,000 seeds ha-1 in six months, according to AGROSAVIA's management.
The producer who cultivates, harvests, and selects his own seed, applying the parameters and recommendations provided by Agrosavia, obtains yields of up to 100 t ha-1.
The producer obtains his own high-quality seed at a lower cost than that purchased in the market.
