Description
PERLA NEGRA shows high levels of iron and zinc, basic elements to achieve an optimal health state, and has a high content of antioxidants in the pulp, such as vitamin C. The average yield of this variety is 32.16 tons per hectare, and it has a high tendency to produce first-class potatoes weighing more than 75 grams. The tuber is characterized by its round shape, primary blackish skin color and smooth texture, average diameter of 6.73 centimeters, and a tuber dry weight of 188.59 grams.
This potato variety has dual-purpose characteristics for fresh and industrial consumption (flakes and sticks), it requires less cooking time, its texture is floury, it melts more easily in the mouth, its pulp is whiter in color, and it has a much more neutral and pleasant flavor due to the high starch content. Additionally, it has tolerance to potato blight (Phytophthora infestans), which decreases production costs by up to 4.15%, generates less negative environmental impact, and produces a cleaner product.
Its use is recommended for the potato municipalities of the departments of Boyacá and Cundinamarca.
