Andean and Pacific regions

Description
The CC 01-1940 sugarcane variety for panela is available for the panela-producing areas of the Andean natural subregion, reaching commercial yields of 120.6 tons of cane per hectare (TCH), 12.7 tons of panela per hectare (TPH), and a conversion percentage to panela of 10.5%. This material has a vegetative cycle of 16 months that can vary according to the agroclimatic conditions of each area.
This variety does not suffer from lodging, and its lint content is scarce, which facilitates harvesting the stems.
This plant material has higher cane and panela yields per unit area than traditional materials such as RD 75-11, surpassing these values by 23.6 tons of cane per hectare and 3 tons of panela per hectare.
The material produces juices with a high sucrose content (79.75%), which allows obtaining good panela yields and quality within the ranges allowed by Resolution 779 of 2006 issued by the Ministry of Social Protection.
In addition, it presents good natural defoliation; this is a desirable characteristic since it reduces residues, favoring the reduction of insoluble solids and facilitating the clarification process, improving the quality of the panela.
Regarding its sanitary behavior, it presents tolerance to some of the diseases of economic importance, such as coffee rust (Puccinia melanocephala) and orange rust (Puccinia kuehnii) with a reaction degree of 5 and a severity <5%, and sugarcane smut (Sporisorium scitamineum) with an incidence of 0%.
The variety may present a percentage of infestation intensity by Diatraea spp. of 6.24%, which is considered low.
The departments of Antioquia, Boyacá, Caldas, Cundinamarca, Huila, Norte de Santander, Quindío, Risaralda, Santander, Tolima, Cauca, Nariño, and Valle del Cauca are its recommended domain.
