Description
A dual-purpose yellow grain maize variety with a yield of 5.8 tons per hectare and about 32 tons per hectare of forage, it has better resistance to diseases that prevail in the humid Caribbean, with only a 3.7% risk of cob rot.
It is recommended for medium to high fertility soils with good drainage; conventional tillage can be used, preferably with a chisel plow or minimum tillage (direct sowing); sowing is suggested in both semesters of the year (April - May for the first semester and August - September for the second semester). Sowing is recommended to be carried out in both semesters of the year with a population density of 62,500 plants per hectare, with distances of 0.4 m between plants and 0.8 m between furrows, with between 2 and 3 plants per site, and at a depth between 1 and 2 centimeters.
Weekly monitoring is recommended to identify the incidence and severity of pests and diseases. For pests such as the fall armyworm, the recommendation is to apply low environmental impact products in the initial larval stages (L1-L3).
The application of fungicides is unnecessary for foliar diseases, and weed control should be carried out during the first 30 days of plant growth since this is the critical stage of competition with the crop.
It is advisable to carry out 3 fertilizations; the first fertilization consists of applying a mixture of 23 kg per hectare of P2O5 (source of phosphorus), plus 10 kg per hectare of minor elements, incorporated into the soil with the last pass of the polisher, or with the planter, if it has fertilizer hoppers. At 12-15 days after crop emergence (DAE), apply a mixture of 46 kg per hectare of nitrogen plus 30 per hectare of K2O (source of potassium), and at 30 DAE, apply 46 kg per hectare of nitrogen.
Harvesting should take place within 120 days after crop emergence.
