Description
The biofortified bean Agrosavia Rojo 43 is a bush type with indeterminate growth and tolerant to water deficit that stands out for having a high nutritional quality due to the concentration of the micronutrients iron (74.3-120 ppm) and zinc (26-55 ppm) and has a protein content of 24.3 %. Among the characteristics of the seeds are that they are small, kidney-shaped, flat in the hilum area, and reddish brown in color, making them suitable for agroindustry and consumption as dry grain. The average yield of this bean is 1.1 tons per hectare, and it has 21 pods per plant, 5.3 seeds per pod, and uniform ripening of the pods.
Agrosavia Rojo 43 is recommended to be planted in association with maize/corn or cassava, which makes it ideal for use by ethnic communities or family agriculture. Due to its tolerance to water deficit (average of 480 millimeters of water from the planting stage to harvest maturity), two annual harvests can be obtained. Furthermore, on a qualitative scale from 1 to 9, where 1 is the least affected, it shows characteristics of tolerance to anthracnose (2.0), common bacteriosis (3.0), angular spot (4.0), common mosaic virus (1.0), aphids (1.0), bugs (1.0), grain weevil (2.0), and pod borer (2.0).
This cultivar has been tested in the municipalities of Bolívar, Cesar, La Guajira, and Magdalena.
