Description
The biofortified bean Corpoica Rojo 39 is tolerant to water deficit, standing out for having a high nutritional quality due to the concentration of the micronutrients iron (70-106 ppm) and zinc (37 ppm) and having a protein content of 37 %.
The characteristics of the seeds include that they are medium in size, rounded, elongated, slightly cylindrical, have a reniform shape, and opaque red color that makes them suitable for fresh consumption, dry grain, and agro-industrial use. The average yield of this bean is 1.2 tons per hectare, and it has 19 pods per plant, 5.6 seeds per pod, and uniform ripening of the pods.
Corpoica Rojo 39, due to its tolerance to water deficit (it consumes an average of 480 millimeters of water from the planting stage to harvest maturity), can achieve two annual harvests. Furthermore, on a qualitative scale from 1 to 9, where 1 is the least affected, it presents characteristics of tolerance to anthracnose (1.0), common bacteriosis (4.0), angular spot (4.0), common mosaic virus (1.0), aphids (2.0), bugs (2.0), grain weevil (3.0), and pod borer (1.0).
This cultivar is recommended for use in the production areas of the departments of Bolívar, Cesar, La Guajira, and Magdalena.
