Description
The ALTOANDINA Fodder Oat Cultivar favors the increase in competitiveness and sustainability of the dairy systems of the Nariñense highlands. It can be used as a supplement in the form of silage to complement the diet during times of drought, as well as a nutritional supplement throughout the year; it has an average yield of 64.9 tons per hectare of green forage with a short harvest cycle of 134 days.
Other characteristics of this variety include 5.2% resistance to lodging (compared to 30% of commercial varieties); 8.4% protein content; 54.8% and 59% of total digestible nutrients in green and silage forage, respectively; and low incidence (less than 20%) of leaf and stem rust (Puccinia spp).
Including silage from the ALTOANDINA Fodder Oat Cultivar at levels of 20 to 35% of the daily dry matter intake can represent a 10 to 20% increase in milk production compared to feeding only with pastures.
Presentation
Packages of 30 kilograms for a planting density between 70 and 80 kilograms per hectare, depending on the productive target (seed or fodder).
