Genomic information platform on the Zebu Brahman breed for use in selection and genetic breeding

- Thematic area:
- Seeding material and genetic breeding
- Productive system:
- Meat livestock

Description
The Brahman genomic platform aims to improve the identification of individuals with superior genetic merit for 40 productive interest traits and contribute to the sustainability of herds. This information will allow the generation of a mating plan directed to maximize the genetic gain in productive traits (growth and reproduction), maintaining genetic variability and lower levels of consanguinity. The combination of these elements allows achieving sustainable genetic progress.
The products that can be derived from this platform are:
- A filiation control system to assign paternity.
- Estimating breeding genomic values for traits, such as growth, reproduction, formation, and type.
- The design of mating programs that optimize the genetic gain for selection traits.
- Discard animals carrying undesirable genetic mutations.
How to use the genomic information platform:
- Livestock farmers interested in using this selection tool may request the service through Asocebú.
- An authorized technician will travel to the farm to take samples (blood, semen) from the animals that will be genotyped.
- Once the samples enter the laboratory, there will be a 60-day period to conduct the genetic analyses and deliver a report of results and recommendations to the farmer.
This technological offer does not have a specific recommendation domain and can be used by all the producers of the Zebu Brahman Breed at the national level.
