AGROSAVIA and Parques Nacionales Naturales de Colombia are committed to sustainable systems for conservation

Villavicencio, Meta. March 19, 2024. The La Libertad Research Center of AGROSAVIA, Patrimonio Natural Fondo para la Biodiversidad y Áreas Protegidas, the Orinoquia Territorial Directorate-DTOR (for its acronym in Spanish) of Parques Nacionales Naturales de Colombia-PNNC, and KFW consolidated a strategic alliance to implement sustainable systems for conservation in the adjacent territories of Parque Nacional Natural Sierra de La Macarena.

The La Libertad Research Center of AGROSAVIA and DTOR of PPNC have signed an agreement that seeks to mitigate the impact generated by livestock activity in the territory near Parque Nacional Natural Sierra de La Macarena through the promotion and adoption of comprehensive and environmentally responsible technological alternatives, which contribute to strengthening and consolidating Sustainable Systems for Conservation in Livestock-SSCL.

The main focus of this initiative is to reduce the pressures exerted within the Protected Area generated by traditional livestock activities and promote the reconversion of affected areas in the municipalities of Vistahermosa, San Juan de Arama, and Mesetas, which are located in the adjacent territory of the Park and that represent a great statistic regarding the drivers of Deforestation in the Department of Meta.

It has been projected, from the livestock and small species network, the provision and implementation of technological recommendations and the strengthening of the capacities of local actors to promote the adoption of SSCL in about 150 livestock farms in the adjacent territories of Parque Nacional Sierra de La Macarena in the municipalities mentioned before.

This project is supported by German financial cooperation through the State Development Bank of the Federal Republic of Germany KFW; with this support, sustainable practices and the linking of some of AGROSAVIA's technological offers will be implemented, generating a positive impact on the conservation of the agroecosystem and the sustainable development of livestock farming in the surrounding territories.

This alliance between environmental entities and agricultural research is essential to promote sustainable agriculture that protects and conserves the environment, thus guaranteeing long-term food security, improving the quality of life of peasant families, and conserving natural resources present in the territory and the well-being of present and future generations.
