AGROSAVIA invites you to the 7th National Auction of Colombian Creole Breeds: Genetics, knowledge, and tradition at the service of Colombian livestock farming

Villavicencio, Meta. August 14, 2026. On September 25, 2026, AGROSAVIA’s La Libertad Research and Technology Transfer Center will host the 7th National Auction of Colombian Creole Breeds, an event that will bring together producers, cattle ranchers, researchers, and other stakeholders from the sector to learn about the potential of Creole cattle genetics and its contribution to the development of livestock systems adapted to tropical conditions.

The event will begin at 2:00 p.m. with an academic program, during which AGROSAVIA researchers will share knowledge on Creole genetics, genetic breeding, sustainability, and meat quality.

The program includes:

2:00 p.m. – Opening remarks, delivered by Román Tibavija Cipagauta, Director of the La Libertad Research and Technology Transfer Center and its affiliated sites at AGROSAVIA.

2:15 p.m. – The Contribution of Creole Genetics to Environmentally Friendly Livestock Farming, presented by Ph.D. Researcher Edison Julián Ramírez.

2:45 p.m. – Genetic Breeding Program, presented by Associate Ph.D. Researcher Jhon Jacobo Cañas Álvarez.

3:15 p.m. – Analysis for Assessing Meat Quality, presented by Associate Ph.D. Researcher Hernando Flórez Díaz.

3:45 p.m. – Presentation of recognitions for professional trajectory and contributions.

From 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the Creole Breeds Auction will take place, organized by AGROSAVIA and SUBASTAR. This edition will feature 87 individuals, grouped into 41 lots, belonging to AGROSAVIA’s Animal Germplasm Bank (BGA) and Genetic Breeding Program (PMG). The animals represent six Creole cattle breeds:

Blanco Orejinegro (BON), Hartón del Valle, Romosinuano, Costeño con Cuernos, Chino Santandereano, and Sanmartinero.

The animals come from conservation herds and genetic breeding programs developed by AGROSAVIA at its Palmira Research and Technology Transfer Center (Valle del Cauca), Turipaná (Cereté, Córdoba), La Libertad (Villavicencio, Meta), and El Nus (San Roque, Antioquia).

The auction offers producers and cattle ranchers interested in improving their production systems an opportunity to learn about and access animals of high genetic value, selected through institutional conservation and genetic breeding programs. Creole cattle breeds constitute a strategic genetic resource for Colombia due to their adaptability, hardiness, and reproductive efficiency, characteristics that can contribute to the development of more resilient livestock systems in response to the environmental and production conditions of tropical regions.

Through the Animal Germplasm Bank and the Genetic Breeding Program, AGROSAVIA conserves, characterizes, and sustainably uses these animal genetic resources, generating knowledge and alternatives that strengthen Colombian livestock farming.
