AGROSAVIA publishes a book analyzing three decades of scientific knowledge generation for Colombian agriculture
  • The publication, available free of charge in digital format, presents the first scientometric analysis of the Corporation’s scientific output between 1993 and 2022.

Mosquera, Cundinamarca, July 22, 2026. Corporación colombiana de investigación agropecuaria (AGROSAVIA) announces the publication and free digital release of the book Scientific and Technological Knowledge Generation at AGROSAVIA: 30 Years of Research Impact for Colombian Agriculture – A Scientometric Analysis, a work that documents and examines three decades of scientific and technological contributions to the development of Colombia’s agricultural sector.

With 247 pages and e-Book ISBN 978-958-740-906-2, the publication offers the first comprehensive assessment of AGROSAVIA’s scientific output using scientometric, bibliometric, and alternative metrics. The book analyzes the evolution of the knowledge generated by the Corporation from 1993 to 2022, identifying thematic trends, scientific collaboration networks, contributions to sustainable development, and the institution’s positioning within the Latin American research landscape.

The book was authored by Diego Hernando Flórez Martínez, Carlos Alberto Contreras Pedraza, Leidy Johanna Cárdenas Solano, Alexis Morales Castañeda, Camilo Alejandro Corchuelo, María Esperanza Mora Niviayo, Betty Jazmín Gutiérrez, César Augusto Vargas, and Alcira María Delgado Sánchez.

Drawing on data retrieved from international databases including Scopus, Web of Science, SciELO, and Google Scholar, the analysis reconstructs AGROSAVIA’s scientific and technological trajectory, highlighting how agricultural research has contributed to the generation of new knowledge, technological development, the social appropriation of knowledge, and capacity building in science, technology, and innovation.

Diego Hernando Flórez Martínez, Head of the Department of Scientific and Technological Intelligence and Outreach and leader of the authoring team, stated: “Beyond providing a retrospective perspective, the book offers a reflection on the future challenges of knowledge management in research, development, and innovation (R&D&I). Topics such as bioeconomy, climate-smart agriculture, food security, emerging agrifood systems, open science, and artificial intelligence are addressed as key elements for guiding agricultural research over the coming decades.”

“With the editorial project Scientific and Technological Knowledge Generation at AGROSAVIA, we developed a tailored conceptual and graphic approach to showcase the metrics, stories, hands, and faces of the people who make science happen within our Corporation. All of this is framed within a historical and educational narrative that enables readers to navigate the publication and explore in greater depth the content that best aligns with their interests and information needs,” said Alcira María Delgado Sánchez, who coordinated the editorial development of the book.

The idea for the publication emerged as part of AGROSAVIA’s 30th-anniversary commemoration and contributes to understanding the role that research centers and institutes play in generating scientific knowledge to support the sustainable transformation of the agricultural sector.

With this publication, AGROSAVIA reaffirms its commitment to the democratization of knowledge and open access to scientific information by making available to researchers, students, policymakers, sector organizations, and the general public an analytical resource that offers insight into the evolution, impact, and future perspectives of agricultural research in Colombia.
