AGROSAVIA Researcher Recognized at the Frontiers Planet Prize 2026 for Contributions to Planetary Boundaries

AGROSAVIA Researcher Recognized at the Frontiers Planet Prize 2026 for Contributions to Planetary Boundaries

Bogota, Capital District. April 22, 2026. Ph.D. Researcher Olga Lucía Mayorga Mogollón, from Corporación colombiana de investigación agropecuaria (AGROSAVIA), was recognized at the Frontiers Planet Prize 2026 after the article “The contribution of local shrubs to the carbon footprint reduction of traditional dairy systems in Cundinamarca, Colombia,” developed with her team of co-authors, was selected as Colombia’s National Champion.

This recognition positions Colombian research and the work of AGROSAVIA researchers on a global stage, highlighting scientific solutions to tackle the planet’s most pressing environmental challenges.

Science aligned with planetary boundaries

The Frontiers Planet Prize is a global scientific initiative that recognizes research contributing to keeping human development within planetary boundaries, a framework that defines the conditions necessary to preserve the stability of the Earth system.

This year, the prize selected 25 National Champions—one per country—whose research presents scalable, evidence-based solutions to challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and the sustainable use of resources.

Subsequently, three international winners are chosen from among these national champions, receiving global recognition for the impact and scope of their research.

International experts evaluate the works and must contribute to generating scientific evidence for decision-making at the global level.

Research with impact in the territory

The award-winning article analyzes how incorporating local shrubs into production systems helps reduce carbon footprints and generate sustainable alternatives adapted to local contexts.

This type of research not only expands scientific knowledge but also provides practical solutions to advance toward more sustainable and resilient agricultural systems.

An institutional process that enhances scientific impact

This recognition is also framed within an exercise led by AGROSAVIA’s Directorate of Research and Development and its Department of Scientific and Technological Intelligence and Dissemination, through which a structured analysis of the institution’s scientific output was conducted.

Out of a total of 590 publications analyzed, a structured evaluation process was carried out based on criteria such as scientific quality, relevance to sector challenges, impact potential, and contribution to sustainability within the framework of the nine planetary boundaries. As a result, four publications were selected and submitted to the call, in line with its strict requirements. Among these, the study led by researcher Olga Lucía Mayorga stood out.

“This process reflects the rigor with which the institution’s scientific output is analyzed, enabling the identification of research with high impact potential and international projection,” said Diego Hernando Flórez, Head of the Department of Scientific and Technological Intelligence and Dissemination.

Science for a sustainable future

This recognition reaffirms AGROSAVIA’s commitment to science focused on solving real-world problems, driven by the talent of its researchers and their connection with the territory, thereby contributing to the sustainability of the agricultural sector and the planet’s balance.
