AGROSAVIA strengthens agroecology capacities through Colombian-German technical exchange

Mosquera, Cundinamarca. August 12, 2026. The Research and Development Directorate and the Sustainable Intensive Production Department of AGROSAVIA, within the framework of the Colombian-German Agroecological Project (PACA, for its Spanish acronym), participated, together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR, for its Spanish acronym) and other partner organizations, in a scientific and technical exchange in Germany aimed at learning about institutional, scientific, and territorial experiences in organic, ecological, and agroecological agriculture.

During the agenda, Rodrigo Martínez, Director of Research, and Martha Marina Bolaños Benavides, Ph.D. Researcher, participated in dialogue sessions with public institutions such as the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity, as well as research centers such as the Julius Kühn Institute, the University of Hohenheim, the Institute of Agricultural Sciences in the Tropics, and the Hans-Ruthenberg Institute. These experiences encompassed production systems and approaches related to community-supported agriculture, biodynamic agriculture, ecological production, biological control, horticulture, applied training, and ecological model regions. The working sessions have enabled the identification of valuable lessons for strengthening coordination among research, public policy, territorial innovation, and the agroecological transition.

This exchange enriches the Plan A project in its 2026 version and connects the lessons learned through PACA with the actions that AGROSAVIA has been promoting in the territories through knowledge exchange, capacity building, and support for the agroecological transition of production systems. Based on the organization’s strategic approaches, emphasis has been placed on topics such as adaptation to climate variability, agroecology, bioeconomy, sustainable soil management, assessment of soil quality indicators, biodynamic agriculture, and regional ecological models.

In this way, AGROSAVIA, through the actions of the Research and Development Directorate and the Sustainable Intensive Production Department, is advancing in the consolidation of technical and methodological references that contribute to the development of more sustainable, resilient, and territorially adapted agri-food systems in Colombia, while strengthening international cooperation, consolidating collaborative networks, and promoting joint learning around agroecology.
