AGROSAVIA will have its first experimental farm in Putumayo for a more sustainable and inclusive agriculture
  • Within the framework of Asamblea Popular Campesina [Popular Peasant Assembly] of Putumayo held on April 25 and 26, the opening of an Experimental Farm was announced in the municipality of Villa Garzón, Putumayo.

 

Mocoa, Putumayo. April 26, 2024. Corporación colombiana de investigación agropecuaria – AGROSAVIA, in alliance with Gran Tierra Energy Inc and other actors in the Department of Putumayo, will open a new headquarters in the Municipality of Villa Garzón, expanding its presence, where it will provide support to research, development and innovation processes in sensitive ecosystems such as the Amazon region. This announcement was made by Jorge Mario Díaz Luengas, Executive Director of the Corporation, within the framework of the Popular Peasant Assembly of Putumayo.

The Experimental Farm will consist of 100 hectares located in Centro Forestal Costayaco [Costayaco Forest Center], where the main lines of work will be productive reconversion, conservation of agrobiodiversity, sustainable livestock, food security, agroforestry systems, and non-timber forest products from the forest, among others. The experimental farm will promote the generation of scientific knowledge and agricultural technological development through scientific research, adaptation of technologies, transfer, and consultancy to improve production competitiveness in the Amazon region.

The Executive Director of AGROSAVIA stated, “It will be the first time that AGROSAVIA has a presence in this territory, and by installing us in this Experimental Farm, we will be able to carry out research and make alliances with the actors of the territory. It will also allow us to do participatory research with interest groups in the region, particularly with indigenous peoples, with peasant organizations in regenerative research to restore the diversity of ecosystems and thus, have a more sustainable and more inclusive agriculture.”
