Exchange of lessons learned on animal supplementation in the south of the country

Pasto, Nariño. June 15, 2023. On June 8, 2023, the closing event of the project "Strategic animal supplementation linkage plan" was held within the framework of Agreement 2089 between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and AGROSAVIA. The event, attended by more than 50 producers and representatives of territorial entities, was held at the Obonuco Research Center of AGROSAVIA in Pasto, Nariño.

Producers from the municipalities of Consacá, Cumbal, La Cruz, Ipiales, Pasto, Potosí, Pupiales, and Tangua, located in the department of Nariño, and the municipalities of Colón, Sibundoy, Santiago, and San Francisco located in the department of Putumayo, together with institutional representatives of the Governorates of Nariño and Putumayo, municipal mayors' offices, Saenz Fety, SAGAN, Parquesoft Nariño and the Ministry of Agriculture lived an experience in the Specialized Dairy Showcase of the Obonuco, Research Center where knowledge was exchanged on topics such as soils, silvopastoral systems, fodder, animal supplementation, animal welfare, and milk quality.

After this visit, the attendees and the research team discussed lessons learned about silage production, local supplementation bank, and silage delivery and reception, all of these activities framed within the project.

Gustavo García Gómez, Lead Researcher of Agreement 2089, indicated that "The importance of holding this event lay in taking advantage of the opportunity to exchange experiences among the participating livestock organizations in a project for the production of fodder banks and silage, with their direct administration of the financial resource, in addition to learning from our experience so that the farmers themselves adopt the forage conservation practice."
