Valledupar to become the epicenter of sheep and goat knowledge in Latin America

• The 6th Regional Seminar on the Sheep and Goat Production Chain will be held on October 16 and 17, 2026, in Valledupar.
• The event will provide a platform for sharing scientific advances, production experiences, and strategies for the conservation of animal genetic resources and biodiversity.
• AGROSAVIA has opened the call for the submission of scientific posters until August 30.

 

Valledupar, Cesar. August 6, 2026. Science, innovation, and knowledge will come together in Valledupar during the 6th Regional Seminar on the Sheep and Goat Production Chain: Animal Genetic Resources, Biodiversity, and Sustainability. The event, led by Corporación colombiana de investigación agropecuaria (AGROSAVIA), will bring together researchers, producers, extension professionals, students, and national and international experts to promote the sustainable development of this important productive sector.

Over two days, the seminar will promote the exchange of experiences and the social appropriation of knowledge related to the conservation of animal genetic resources, biodiversity, innovation, and the sustainability of sheep and goat production systems. It will also present the progress made in the Lowland Tropical Sheep and Goat Germplasm Bank – Phase I, an initiative aimed at strengthening the conservation of the country’s genetic heritage and contributing to national food security.

The academic program will include keynote lectures, panel discussions, scientific poster presentations, an agribusiness exhibition, networking opportunities among different stakeholders in the production chain, and a technical tour of the Motilonia Research and Technology Transfer Center and sheep and goat production systems in the department of Cesar.

As part of the event, AGROSAVIA invites researchers, professionals, students, and sector stakeholders to submit their work in poster format, providing an opportunity to share research findings, experiences, and initiatives related to the sustainability and production of sheep and goats. Abstract submissions will remain open until September 5, 2026, and selected proposals will be presented during the seminar.

This meeting is part of AGROSAVIA’s commitment to generating and transferring knowledge to strengthen the competitiveness, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development of the sheep and goat production chain in Colombia, connecting science with the needs of local territories and the people who make this productive activity possible.
